iPHONE PHOTOGRAPHY CLASS

Well, YES!  I did it!!  This was the best four hour investment of brain expansion that I can remember.

My sister decided to take the class also so I will have someone with whom to continue the learning.  We started at Mieko's house at 9:00 am where she gave us a handout of what she would be presenting and also a little slide show.  Then we drove to a local bird sanctuary to practice.  There were four "students" so it was really hands on.  The other two were a mother-in-law/daughter-in-law team ... totally a family affair.

After about 90 minutes there, shooting the other four members in four kinds of lighting as well as landscape and macro shots, we headed to the beach and practiced fitting the "S" curve into our composition.  She is an amazing teacher ... she has all of the information and teaches with pleasant hands-on experiences ... and TONS of patience.  I had AHA moments every five minutes.

Then we went to lunch to take photos of our food (one of my favorite things to do) as well as learn how to use an app she showed us.  FABULOUS!!  With the people shots we learned how to take their faces out from the shadowing when the sun was behind me.  Amazing

Check out the before and after of a reflection photo.

Gosh I'm not going to be getting any housework done for a few days!!

P.S.  The daughter-in-law turns out to be a healthy eating coach and cooking instructor so next week I'm taking her class!  Vegan!!

    1. Through a friend of a friend on Facebook!! I friended her after Scott kept posting her wonderful photos on his page. I could NOT understand how her iPhone photos looked so perfect. She said she'd be glad to show me and thus we formed a class!

  2. Me, too! I want a smart phone picture class! What a lot of fun that keeps on giving.

I must say, Maui sure has a lot of interesting people. I don't think I've ever met an eating coach.

    1. Today my sister is out SCUBA til noon so I can play, play, play with photography!! Tara has encouraged her inlaws to also be vegan and her two kids were converts at an early age. I don't know that I can be vegan but I sure can continue to reduce meat to a tiny side dish. Maybe I should re-watch "Forks over Knives"

Yes. Maui has it all!!! Although Portland has SOOOO many vegans. Must have 100 vegan restaurants! And bakeries. Such a foodie town, I love it.

Raining today in Paradise. It's 8am and the sun is trying to burst out. 70 degrees right now.

  3. Oh my goodness! What an extraordinary photograph, especially with retouching. Man, I'll bet your camera is your new best friend, that is, after your sister and a host of others.

    1. We are both a little obsessed with using our new skills. My poor Facebook friends! Also, I would have NEVER gone to that empty bird refuge to take photos .. in a million years. But gosh! The landscape and perspective was amazing.
