FIREWORK DEVASTATION

Summers in Portland are fabulous.  Dry and sunny for all our outside concerts and Farmer's Markets.  Great for Jesse's garden.  But things have taken a wicked turn for the worse.

We have ash falling here from a fire about 30 miles east of here.  (Which was started by young teens and fireworks).

Portland has had a long HOT dry summer and now we are paying the price.  I bet we have had more over 90 degree days than ever recorded.  So many forest fires and such devastation.  Several highways are closed and many towns have been evacuated.

If only Irma would bring a little of her rain this way ... We have a vacation planned in Central Oregon (Sunriver Resort) at the end of the month and the forest fires near there may put an end to that.  I sure hope we get our money back ...

  1. Fires are SO scary! And 30 miles away is too damn close for comfort. Stupid kids!!! It's too bad the water dumped on Texas isn't clean water so it could be sucked up and trucked our your way.

  2. That map makes it clear how Oregon is covered in so many fires; fires are raging here in California too. Stay safe.

    1. You too stay safe. I don't remember a fire season this bad. Or a hurricane season! Mother nature is grumpy!

  3. It seems like West winds would keep that smoke blown away from you. Or is it like the rivers--once you cross the Continental Divide, they flow the other way? We get westerly winds here, so all our weather comes down from Canada and then, west into Michigan.

    1. Recently the winds are from the East. Today was a tiny bit better. Usually our weather does come from the west.

  5. So sorry to hear of Oregon fires. Experienced ash like snow in my drive once many years ago when we still had a shake roof. One of our current friends So Cal fires was reportedly caused accidentally by someone playing with firecrackers. Hope you get a refund if unable to enjoy that vacation.

    1. I hope the weather clears so we CAN go! We have a tiny west breeze today, 20% chance of rain. PRAYERS!

  6. What a terrible thing. Kids and fireworks just don't mix. Every year around the 4th, someone loses a finger or gets burned, or causes a fire. Hope rain comes your way soon.

    1. And the worst news, about 100 people were enjoying the day in this popular area and were forced to spend the night before being rescued ... the teen was 15 so I hope the punishment is harsh enough ....
