100 PENNIES

This morning I was chatting with my sister.  She is honestly my BEST friend.  We don't talk every day but usually a text or an email.  I need to make an effort to phone more!  Just her voice cheers me up.

Both of us have the entertaining gene, she more than me.  Today we discovered we both now prefer SMALL intimate groups.  Husbands both loved having as many people as possible.  For many years, both of us supported these big parties.   Since I am now alone, I get to do all the planning.  Her hubs is turning 60 so she is attempting to slow him down.  (But, since he likes bigger, she's doing his surprise party bigger!)

I find that in the past I was just the hostess.  Making sure the food and drinks were restocked, trash picked up, checking that everyone was having fun.  Now I can be a guest!  I like to have conversations.  Exchange ideas (totally avoid politics these days). It's kind of like the saying above.

Four quarters for me.

  1. I wish I lived in your neighborhood. I'd love attending your small parties. I don't know many people who even have them anymore. My circle of friends used to do it years ago but now we just go out to dinner. Family parties are it, for me.

I love that four quarters instead of 100 pennies. So true!

    1. I'm making it easier and easier on myself these days as well. Potluck!! We go out a lot too but some of us are hard of hearing so at a home is much better for chatting. My F-Troop friend hosts at her house also, so it's not just me!

All those circles of "friends" ... the close ones get the most attention!

  2. I used to love big! The bigger the better. Let's rent a hall and invite ALL our friends for a party and a dance. Now, it is easier for me to take one friend at a time. LOL

    1. And I used to do all the food for groups of 50! Eventually, I learned to do semi-homemade!! Buy potato salad from Costco, put it in my own serving bowl ... and sliced eggs with paprika on top, garnish with fresh parsley .... semi homemade!

  3. Never loved big. Always loved small. Four quarters for me. Or two half dollars. LOL

  4. I love that 100 pennies quote. And doesn't that describe it perfectly?

We used to entertain a lot, but we seldom do anymore, and when we do, it's mostly family. I told H the other day that we should try to do a little more. Your gatherings sound so inviting. Wish I was there!!!
