THE MAUI HOUSE - Part 10

Ten parts to this story?  I suppose I could turn it into a novel ... Don't Mix Friendship with Business. It was a horrible, awful, no good three months and I learned a lot.  She finally moved out on Jan 3.  What an experience but at least it is over.  My realtor is gearing up for spur of the moment showings and an open house or two.  I'm concerned about leaving the house empty so she has volunteered her 25 year old daughter to live there until we arrive!  Win/win as she gets a break from living in the family room at home and I feel more secure that a vengeful tenant will be deterred.

To celebrate, I am taking my family to Maui for TWO WEEKS in February for our last big hurrah.  If it hasn't sold, we will keep our stuff in the garage so it can be shown on a moment's notice.  We adults have agreed to no screen time for ANY of us until after 8pm.  This will be a real family vacation!!!

The boys are old enough to enjoy a boat snorkel trip and a luau.  Those will be our two big splurges.  The rest of the time is beach or community pool or looking for shells and whales.  February is prime time for whales!  I wanted to get us a room for just one night at the Grand Wailea as it is the Disneyland of swimming pools on Maui.  No can pay those prices!  Goodness!!!

Let the good times of 2019 begin!

  1. I can't imagine that house would be in an area where it would get break-ins with no one living there. I'd be more worried about a 25 year old I didn't know throwing kid parties in the place. But I suppose she does this kind of thing for her mother all the time.

Glad you and your family will get one more vacation there. Or maybe more but in a rented place in the future.

    1. Yes, she is very trustworthy! And she is doing some projects for me ... carpet cleaning, keeping decks clean and luscious. Her Mom loaned me their pool so Braeden could take private swim lessons. Good friends!

We started vacationing in Maui (first two trips were business related) every other year. The parent company where Mr. Ralph worked hosted champions of the year every other year in Hawaii (all islands) then we would take Kate for Christmas break every year.

We were seduced. If I wasn't as close to my kids/family, I would live there in a heartbeat.

  2. I'm glad your tenant showed her true colors before you two ended up being house buddies in your senior years.
Glad you can take the kids for one more time. They can have a ball and you can retrieve anything you might want and say good-bye in a proper fashion.

    1. It will be such fun! That's the best part of sharing my life here ... to watch their reactions to life! I spoil them with vacations!

    1. Hi! Thanks for popping by! Such a stressful holiday season this year. Thank goodness it is now in the past. PEOPLE! Hard to understand.

The boys have a countdown calendar on the wall.

  4. A trip with family to Maui! What a great idea. I wouldn't mind looking for shells and whales one bit. The boys will love the snorkeling.

I agree about not mixing business with friends... or family. My brother does it very well, but it is not for me. Selling a house is stressful. Getting rid of an unhappy tenant adds to the stress. I'm so happy for you that this part is finished, and you can move on to the "showing" and hopefully "selling" part.

    1. Thanks! It is showing almost every day. Several have returned a second time. The biggest deterrent is NO VIEW. So we decorated outdoor lanai for entertaining in the evening ... NO VIEW!!! Battery candles and citronella buckets everywhere.

The house is 1/2 mile to the ocean!
