PANDEMIC PUDGINESS

This will be short.  Just got results of blood work and quarantine eating has caused my A1C to go up.

I will now have to get my chefs involved.  Salad and veggies and whatever protein they are having.  Gotta stop eating little boy food ... mac and cheese, chicken nuggets and fries, hot dogs and fries, tater tots, hash browns, pancakes, waffles, cookies, home made bread.  Yes, I did this to myself.

AND ... I have enjoyed ice cream for the past two weeks.  I can easily cut out sweets.

Everything else is fine, or better, except one thyroid test ...

"One of the thyroid levels (TSH) is borderline high, but active thyroid hormone level (free T4) is normal. This is not uncommon, but we will need to follow".

I haven't looked up TSH and how to manage but I'm pretty sure eating more healthy and walking it off will help.

Dr said we can test again in 3 months to see if I can control this with lifestyle changes. Otherwise, something stronger than metformin.

To top off the day, we got a letter from the Property Management Company who will now take over "the continuing complaints" about our yard and patio. As long as they are handling ALL of the yards and patios with the same guidelines.

It will be an interesting conversation.

  1. Oh, those pesky labs. They have the bad taste to tell on us about any bad behavior. I bet you will get things back under control quickly. I've heard the same from others who are quarantining. "Little boy food," I love it.

I hate neighbor issues. Methinks your neighbor doesn't have enough to keep her busy.

    1. So glad I got the family involved! Even the boys are bringing healthy snacks.

The complaints are most likely from the same three people who do not even live on this side of the complex ... so they have to deliberately walk her for no reason ... not on the way to the pool or clubhouse or bbq area. Just mean spirited. Stay tune

  2. I got the same A1C test results you did from pandemic eating. Very scary.

I don't think thyroid is effected by food in anyway. It has to do with hormones output (or not) from your thyroid gland. I've dealt with thyroid issues and testing since I was 14-15 other than getting more iodine through foods I don't think food really matter all that much. I was to a thyroid specialist a few years back and she never even mentioned foods.

    1. I have been enjoying carbs, carbs, carbs. Remember that home made bread phase? I put a daily carb chart on my desk top. 30-60 grams for each meal, 15-30 grams for two snacks. I save one of my snacks for red wine!

  3. I remember at the beginning of this all back in February/March when people were sent home to work from home, they were saying that people should try on their work clothes every few weeks to make sure they weren't packing on weight since many would be working in pajamas or sweats. I think that was a wise suggestion. I weigh weekly just for that purpose. Up a pound, I adjust for the next week and so on.

Good luck with your eating!! Healthy veggies and salads with protein is definitely the way to go. When my kids were young and I had gained 50 pounds when my son was an infant because he wouldn't sleep and to keep awake I would eat, I decided to go on a diet. I had to resolve that I would not finish the kids' food which I was doing and if it wasn't enough to save for a leftover I had to resolve it was okay to throw it away. But their food sure can be comfort food at times!

I don't think the thyroid test would help with more healthy eating. I think like the other commenter said it has to do with the thyroid hormone and how well the thyroid is working. Now that might have something to do with your A1C if your thyroid is out of whack.

    1. I used to hope it was thyroid rather than lack of will power. But exercise and better eating wil help everything.

  4. It is so tempting in this time to eat foods we know we shouldn't but darn it, it makes you feel a wee bit more in control in this run a way bus. Me too on having to toe the line. We can do it.
